Reader Problems Tag

reader problems tag

Hello lovelies- today I wanted to do the Reader Problem’s Tag.

My, my, it’s been a while since I’ve done a tag post. This tag looked like a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed doing this one. I use the hashtag now and again on twitter, and it’s great to see the ‘problems’ are shared by lots of other book lovers. I first came across this tag on Katytastic’s channel, and you can watch that here. This tag originated on About To Read’s channel, you can watch the original video here.

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
This is an ongoing struggle, and some days are harder than others… I’m kidding it’s not that dramatic. I do have a TBR Jar that I like to use if I’m really stuck. Sometimes I just sit on the couch and look at my books until one leaps out at me. Often I just go off whatever mood I’m in, and I’ll read the first few pages to see if it sticks.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
My first thought when I read this was a quote I’d seen on Goodreads that said “life is too short to read a bad book”. I think it’s a pretty good motto to go on. If I’m sat forcing myself to finish a book then I’m wasting time that could be spent reading a book which could become a favourite. I recently posted about my DNF books – which are books I did not finish – and I came to realise, it’s just one of those things. I’m not going to love every book I pick up, and so I’ll say I’d quit. A huge part of me would want to carry on, but I’ve got to let them go and move on.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?
I would try and catch up, but I’d know it could be really difficult. I know in December that I’m not likely to have as much free time, between work and things like Christmas. What I would do is select a TBR pile that consisted of easy, quick reads and just plough on. In the end though, if I didn’t manage to catch up – it’s not the end of the world.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?
Deep breaths… no, I mean if I was a series that was a favourite I’d try and find matching covers. If they’ve simply done a cover change, I’d have to get over it and quietly vent on the inside. Why do they do that though? Seriously though?!

5. Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who do you bond with over shared feelings?
It really depends on whether or not I find someone that shared the same feelings. For example, I didn’t really enjoy If I Stay by Gayle Forman but there are lots that would look at me strangely for that. I like talking to my mum about books, and my friends and I quite like that people have different opinions to me sometimes. It makes for good conversation.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
I’d let it free – cacawww. Honestly, I’ve cried in public before – to be fair, it’s usually because I’ve had bad news and not from a book. If I know it’s going to be a rough ride, I’d probably read it when I’m home and can ugly cry in peace. If it hits me out of nowhere, then bravo to the book and I’d cry proudly.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book?
If I had time to, I would love to re-read the previous – but, realistically I’ll likely google a summary of it. Either that or I’ll flick through it to try and get a grasp of it. Maybe just re-read the last few chapters?

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?
I seem to have a problem with this because I don’t want to come across tight-fisted. I just have to politely ask them to not break the spine, and look after it. Half the time I expect I’ll never see them again, which makes me sad. Surely I’m not the only one that feels pained to loan out books?

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?
Reading slumps happen to me when life gets in the way, or when books just don’t grab my attention. I try not to force it, because otherwise reading wouldn’t be fun anymore. Even if I’m obsessed with a new TV show or something, I always come back to my love of reading anyway. One thing that sometimes helps me is watching my favourite Booktuber’s talk about books, or sharing a book haul. It gets me excited to pick up another book.

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?
We all know that I had a serious book buying problem in 2014, and if you’ve seen my recent half year book haul, you know that I’m getting that under control. Lately, what I’ve been doing is sticking all of the books I’m looking forward to on my Amazon wish list and then when I have some spare cash I’ll go down the list and pick some that I feel I’d read sooner rather than later. I’m slowly trying to kill my TBR pile so I’d need to be really looking forward to reading them.

As ever, if you’d like to do this tag – please feel free to take the questions from here. Let me know if you do it because I’d love to see your answers. They’d make me feel like I’m not completely insane!
