#Boutofbooks Readathon Wrap Up

boutofbook wrap up

Hello lovelies, today I wanted to share with you how I got on in the recent #boutofbooks readathon.

This readathon was created by Amanda from OnABookBender and ran from Midnight in my timezone on Monday 11th May to the end of Sunday 17th May 2015. There is a blog dedicated to the schedule etc, if you’re interested in joining in with future readathons: boutofbooks.blogspot.com

This readathon is described as ‘low pressure’, which means that the only aim is to push yourself to read more than you normally would during a week. I love this because I quite like doing readathon’s, but I always feel like I’m dissapointed with my results because they usually happen when I’m working a lot. With that in mind, I just chose three books for my TBR pile because I feel it’s more than what I would typically read in a week.

Here are the books that I chose for my TBR pile for this readathon:

secret dreamworld of a shopaholic

The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

I chose this book for my TBR because it’s been sat on my shelf for over a year. It was actually an anniversary present from Stewart last year, and I’d been meaning to pick it up. Especially because I have the rest of the books in the series and I don’t want them to remain unread forever. This was also the first Sophie Kinsella book I was going to read.

simon vs the homo sapiens agenda

Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

I chose this book for my TBR pile because I’d bought it recently when I was shopping with Abbey and I really liked the sound of it. It’s quite a hyped up book at the moment, and I wanted to see if the hype was justified. I’m usually late on the band wagon so I thought I’d hop on a bit earlier than usual.

every day

Every Day by David Levithan

I chose this book for my TBR pile because I’m slowly working through the works of this author. I would consider him one of my favourites so I want to read as many of his books as possible. This one is mentioned a lot by people that have read his work as one of this best, so I thought it’d be a good one to pick up for this readathon.

My readathon results:

I decided to take notes on my phone so that I could keep track of how I was doing, and what pages I was on at the end of the day.

Monday

I was working 6am until 12pm, I had a little nap when I got home and then picked up my first book –The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic. I read 222pages before I went to bed that night, which Goodreads said was 69% of my book. This was a pretty good start for me and I didn’t want to put the book down but alas I had another early shift the next day.

Tuesday

Again, I was working at 6am but I finished at 10am that day. I actually bought another bookcase on my way home and I was helping Stewart building it – when I say I was helping, I was sat on the couch finishing my book! I completed the final 98 pages of The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic whilst he was building. I later started my second book Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda but only read 38 pages before I had to go to bed. Goodreads said that was 12% of my book. Another fairly good day of reading, I was quite happy with that.

Wednesday

This day was a long one, I was working at 6am but I only finished at 3pm. Towards the end of my shift I was getting quite a bad headache, so when I got home I went straight to bed to sleep it off. I woke up with it still there and started to feel nauseated. I didn’t read anything on this day because I felt awful all evening. Not great, but I made up for it the next day.

Thursday

I had a later start at work on this day, I started work at 4pm. During the day I powered through Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda and finished it 5 minutes before I started my shift! So I read 265 pages that day, and finished book two of my TBR pile. I had a late finish at work so I didn’t start my final book.

Friday

This day was one of my days off during that week, and I started my final TBR choice, Every Day. I read the first chapter which was about 39 pages and then my friend, Laura, came around for the evening. She was here quite late so I didn’t continue reading as I was too tired. Despite this being a slower reading day, I was quite happy with it because I felt like at least I’d made a start – and I knew that I was going to love the book so I was eager to pick it back up.

Saturday

Another day off that week and I spent the day reading, and thankfully I finished Every Day in practically one sitting! I adored the book, so I really couldn’t put it down – it was an excellent choice for my readathon TBR. That meant I finished the remaining 332 pages on this day, and also completed my TBR pile for the readathon a day early!

Sunday

I was working this day from 8am until 5.30pm, and once I finished I drove to my hometown to see my parents (and so my dad could fix something on my car). I spent most of the evening at their house before driving home at 10pm. The trip took me about 50 minutes so I got home quite late in the end, and I was shattered so I didn’t bother reading anything on the final day of the readathon.

There were a bunch of different challenges to complete during the readathon, but I didn’t participate in any of those because I just wanted to focus on getting through my TBR pile. The next one I will be more prepared (hopefully) and will join in on those. I think I was quite lucky with my early shifts because it meant I was free to read in the afternoon. If I’d have had a lot of late shifts, I doubt I would have done as well.

Overall, I’m very happy with my readathon results and I’m looking forward to joining in on the next one. I’m taking a blog break throughout June, so make sure you check back in July to see my reviews of the books.
