Hi lovelies, today I’m going to do the Book Sacrifice Tag!
I found this tag over on lauraplusbooks blog, and I’d seen it dotting around the booktube community. I’ve never done any tags that highlight books I haven’t enjoyed because it’s not something I want to dwell on usually. However, I thought the questions for this tag was quite funny, so I went ahead and did it.
1) An Over-Hyped Book: Let’s start this off with a Zombie Apocalypse! Let’s say you’re in a book store, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK. An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies’ only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you really hated do you start chucking at the zombies knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out?!
I’d have to say If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I’d purchased the book because it was hyped a lot on Youtube, and the film was coming out. I read it and it put me into a reading slump, I just didn’t enjoy it at all. You can read my more in depth review for that here
2) A Sequel: Let’s say you’ve just left the salon with a SMASHING new haircut and BOOM: Torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?
This is an easy one for me – I’d choose Allegiant by Veronica Roth as my umbrella. I thought this book let down the otherwise brilliant trilogy, and it saddens me to say that because I really enjoyed the first two. You can read my review for this book here
3) A Classic: Let’s say you’re in a lecture and your English teacher is going on and on about how this classic changed the world, how it revolutionized literature and you get so sick of it that you chuck the classic right at his face because you know what? This classic is stupid and it’s worth detention just to show everyone how you feel! What Classic did you chuck?
The one book that springs to mind for me is Call of Cthulu by H.P. Lovecraft. I had to read this for my uni degree, and I swear I felt like I aged a decade trying to finish this book. I just found it boring and really not my thing at all. I spent the majority of the time trying to figure out what on earth was going on! Yep, get it chucked!
4) Your Least Favourite Book of Life!: Let’s say that you’re hanging out at the library when BAM global warming explodes and the world outside becomes a frozen wasteland. You’re trapped and your only chance for survival is to burn a book. What is the book you first run to, your least favourite book of all life, what book do you not fully regret lighting?
Thankfully I had to really think about this book, which means that no book jumped to mind immediately. I flicked through my Goodreads account and found that The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan was the only book that had 2 stars. I read this in Uni and I remember that it made me feel really uncomfortable. It does have a taboo subject matter, and I felt really uneasy.
If you’d like to do this tag – feel free to take the questions from here. Please tweet me (@intothebookcase) a link to your answers if you choose to do it.
